7 Best Anonymous Survey Tools 2026

The best free anonymous survey tool for a no-account start is SpaceForms, with unlimited responses and anonymous survey mode. Tally is the strongest alternative when documented privacy matters most, while Google Forms and Microsoft Forms work well when configured carefully.

What makes a survey anonymous?

A survey is anonymous to its owner when responses cannot be directly connected to a person through submitted or automatically attached information. Removing the name field is not enough: email collection, login requirements, IP addresses, unique links, timestamps, small groups and distinctive free-text answers can all reveal identity.

“Anonymous” should therefore be treated as a configuration and data-handling question, rather than a simple product label. The prices and limits below were checked on 8 September 2026.

Best anonymous survey tools compared

Tool Free plan and price Anonymous use Best for
SpaceForms $0; unlimited responses Anonymous mode advertised; IP and metadata policy not publicly verified No-account surveys
Tally $0; unlimited forms, questions and submissions Provider says it does not currently collect IP addresses Privacy-conscious feedback
Google Forms $0 for personal use; response cap not identified Anonymous to the creator when email collection is disabled; one-response restriction requires sign-in Simple familiar surveys
Microsoft Forms $0 with a personal Microsoft account Names can be omitted, but small groups and timestamps may identify people Microsoft 365 teams
Jotform $0; five forms and 100 submissions/month Anonymous collection is possible but requires configuration Feature-rich forms
SurveyMonkey $0; 10 questions and 25 visible responses/survey IP tracking is on by default and can be disabled Professional survey controls
Typeform $0; 10 responses/month Anonymous use depends on the form settings and data collected One-question-at-a-time design

1. SpaceForms: best for a free, no-account survey

SpaceForms is the most direct choice if the priority is creating and sharing a survey without signing up. It is free to use, accepts unlimited responses, requires no account to create a form and advertises an anonymous mode. It can also generate a survey from a description using AI.

The important qualification is that public information reviewed for this guide does not clearly document IP-address, referrer, timestamp or other metadata handling. It is more accurate to call SpaceForms designed for anonymous surveys than to promise absolute anonymity. It is also newer and less established than the larger platforms, with fewer integrations than Typeform, Jotform and SurveyMonkey. For a quick anonymous survey, SpaceForms is the best fit; for a documented privacy position, choose Tally.

2. Tally: best documented privacy option

Tally offers unlimited forms, questions and submissions on its free plan. Its help documentation says Tally does not currently collect IP addresses when a form is submitted. That gives it the clearest privacy position in this comparison, although the form owner can still ask for identifying details or infer identity from a small group or distinctive answers.

Choose Tally when unlimited responses and published privacy information matter more than starting without an account. Tally Pro is listed at $29 per month or $290 per year on its pricing page.

3. Google Forms: best familiar free option

Google says usernames are not recorded unless the creator enables email collection. That can make a basic form anonymous to the owner. However, the “Limit to 1 response” setting requires respondents to sign in to a Google Account, so it should not be used when avoiding sign-in is essential.

Choose Google Forms for straightforward team, member or classroom feedback, provided the owner checks email collection and response restrictions before sharing.

4. Microsoft Forms: best for Microsoft 365 teams

Microsoft Forms is available at no cost with a personal Microsoft account. In an organisational form, the creator can disable name recording, while “Anyone can respond” submissions arrive without names recorded according to Microsoft’s guidance. Microsoft also warns that small audiences, timestamps and detailed answers can make respondents identifiable.

Choose Microsoft Forms when the organisation already works in Microsoft 365, Teams and Excel. The business plan is separate: Microsoft 365 Business Basic is listed at £5.40 per user per month when paid yearly, excluding VAT.

5. Jotform: best for advanced form features

Jotform’s free Starter plan allows five forms and 100 submissions per month. It is a better match for payment forms, file uploads, integrations and elaborate layouts than for a large employee or member survey. Anonymous collection can be configured, but the reviewed documentation does not establish that it is technically anonymous by default.

Choose Jotform when the form needs advanced workflows and the response cap is acceptable. Its Bronze plan is listed at $34 per month when billed annually.

6. SurveyMonkey: best controls, weakest free allowance

SurveyMonkey’s Basic plan permits unlimited surveys, but only 10 questions and 25 visible responses per survey. IP addresses are recorded as metadata by default, although the creator can turn IP tracking off and enable anonymous responses.

Choose SurveyMonkey for professional controls, templates and reporting rather than volume. The cheapest monthly paid option found was $99 per month; its Advantage Annual plan was listed at $39 per month when billed annually.

7. Typeform: best-looking limited free option

Typeform is well suited to one-question-at-a-time surveys, but its free plan allows only 10 responses per month. That makes it a design alternative rather than a genuinely free option for most team, member or customer research. The Basic plan is listed at $39 per month, or $28 per month with annual billing.

How to make an anonymous survey safer

  • Disable email collection and name recording unless they are essential.
  • Avoid mandatory account sign-in and unique invitation links.
  • Check whether the provider records IP addresses or other metadata.
  • Do not report results from groups so small that individuals can be guessed.
  • Remove identifying details from free-text questions where possible.

Anonymous surveys do not automatically produce higher response rates. A 2022 meta-analysis of 1,071 online surveys found a mean response rate of 44.1% in education-related research, while a UK randomised study found 49% for anonymous postal questionnaires and 51% for numbered questionnaires. Those findings do not support a universal response-rate advantage.

Frequently asked questions

Is SpaceForms truly anonymous?

SpaceForms advertises anonymous mode, but the public information reviewed does not clearly verify IP-address or other metadata handling. Treat it as designed for anonymous surveys, not as an absolute guarantee.

Which free tool has the clearest privacy documentation?

Tally. Its help documentation says it does not currently collect IP addresses on form submissions. The owner can still collect identifying information through questions or infer identity from context.

Can Google Forms be anonymous?

Yes, to the creator, when email collection is disabled and the form does not require Google sign-in. Limiting each person to one response requires sign-in.

Is confidential the same as anonymous?

No. A confidential survey may record who responded while promising not to disclose individual answers. An anonymous survey is designed so the owner cannot connect answers to people.
